TravelMate 290 Fits My Bill
Pros
Battery, Speed.
Cons
Weight. I'd have liked a five pounder.
Recommended it?
Yes
Just got my Acer 290 Lci about a week ago. I was a bit worried that maybe I had weighed "longer battery life" too highly over straight speed. After all, who wants to buy a 1.3 Ghz machine today. But now, one week later, I can't say enough about the machine.
Battery. True. It lasts and lasts. At least four hours of work.
Speed. Great. I don't have a P4 2.6 Ghz machine to compare, but it's faster than anything else I've used. And it's a great complete package. XP Pro was a big +. CD-RW / DVD combo. Great. And half a Gig of Ram rounds it out.
I read a few other reviews and one comment was saturated screen and cheapie keyboard. I can't say I feel either the screen nor the keyboard to be anything but top notch. I work with a new Dell and it's screen it pitiful in comparison to this Acer.
So in the end, I am quite satisfied.
