Best handheld binocs for the power

bygreasemonkey7 Oct 2, 2011
12 Helpfuls 13 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Stable image for the super power, rugged for outdoors, good low light optics
Cons Too big and heavy for small hands, eats batteries, IS image can drift
Recommended it? Yes

I've been using these for over five years. I wanted super strong binocs for wildlife observation without the need for a tripod. These are very powerful with bright optics, good low light gathering, but the important thing is the IS (image stabilization). It's almost impossible to hold these big... Read full review »

Sets The Standard For Handheld Viewing

byMrBlues Mar 14, 2006
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Excellent optics, effective stabilization
Cons Bulky, heavy, inadequate neckstrap
Recommended it? Yes

I've been using the Canon 15x50 IS for about a month now, mostly for nighttime stargazing. I've been using high quality 10x50, 8x56 and 7x50 binoculars for this purpose for over a decade. Binoculars offer wide views and bright images for backyard astronomers, as well as ease of use and immediate... Read full review »

OK but not great

bymke65 Oct 10, 2004
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Power Image stabilised great view awe factor
Cons heavy and big field of view for moving objects price
Recommended it? Yes

These binos are good for getting up close and personal with intended objects. The IS works reasonably well and the image is clear. The ability to see across the water for miles the great detail and the view of the moon is nothing less than spectacular. Feel of the binos when in hand is also very... Read full review »

money well spent

bytal1 Sep 27, 2005
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros 50mm objective lens for night, image stabilizer, 5min shutoff timer, quality optics
Cons high price (but comparable to other good units) no battery life indicator.
Recommended it? Yes

If you intend to spend a chunk of money on a GOOD pair of binoculars and are looking at high end names like Zeis or Swarovski then you owe it to yourself to consider spending some of that money on the gyro stabilized canon 15x50IS model. I also have the canon GL1 with a 20x optical zoom IS and find... Read full review »

Canon 15x50IS Binoculars

bybinoguy May 29, 2004

Pros Sharp images; very good color correction; smooth and accurate focusing; water resistant.
Cons Image stabilization very good, but not "perfect"; a bit pricey; slightly heavy.
Recommended it? Yes

Having owned or viewed through virtually every brand of binocular out there, I guess you could consider me somewhat of a binogeek. I purchased the Canons primarily for astronomy, but find them great for terrestrial use as well.

First off, image stabilization aside, the optics of this... Read full review »

I evaluated the Canon 15 X 50 IS AW's for 2 weeks. They are a well constructed with ergonomics in mind. The new stabilization button is a great improvement from the former models. The focus knob is smooth a silk. The size, weight, feel, design and optical quality are excellent. The light gathering... Read full review »

Pros Optical Quality, Edge Sharpness, excellent stabilization
Cons eyecups could be better
Recommended it? Yes

I bought these binoculars for daytime and astronomical night viewing. I just spent an hour using them at lunch and am extremely impressed with their optical quality. I find that I can handhold them relatively well, and with the stabilization on, the image is rock steady. I also like the ability to... Read full review »

Canon's image stabilize binoculars make that hard to see detail problem go away!  I use my Canon 15x50 image stabilized binoculars when out boating, watching birds and other animals from the patio, and when we go on day trips.  I received these binoculars for Christmas and I love them!...
