Best semi-pro camcorder? Closest there is.
The successor to the outgoing XM1/GL1 adds manual audio record levels to the spec sheet and a beefed up still camera.
Canon pretty much got it right with the XM1/GL1 so there is little to fault on this machine.
The optics are the best in it's class (20x optical zoom, vs 12x on the...

Excellent camera hands down.
I was looking for a new miniDV cam for a long time. I had to make sure that the choice was researched and researched so I didn't go wrong. I knew I wanted a 3CCD camera. That seperates colors and luminance and contrast I think. Something like that. You can look that up and see for yourself exactly... Read full review »
Best Camera I've Purchased Yet
These bad boys have been my bread and butter for the last few years. I have shot short films, Youtube Commentaries, Night scenes, and creative situations with great confidence and 3CCDs for picture quality.
I bought 2 of them about 5 years ago for a steal at $2300 per camera and now you can buy...

Great Camcorder with everything you could want
This Camcorder is possibly the best Canon has made. However, it's cost proves prohibitive for many. It's not like you aren't getting what you pay for, however. It is certainly a great camcorder, and has everything you could want in a camcorder. However, if you are only looking for something to... Read full review »
The Best in It's Class, Hands Down!
The Canon GL-2 sets the standard for pro-sumer level digital video equipment. With the introduction of level meters, more pixels per CCD, and many more innovations, Canon improved on the already impressive GL-1. Canon's pixel shift technology combined with the new CCD's gives an unrivaled image... Read full review »
Good Camcorder, but buggy.
Update 03/12/07. Problem encountered.
After 26 months of intermittently heavy use, my GL-2 has developed a "bad pixel" problem. In the lower right quadrant of any attached display, a white single lixel appears (even with the lens cap on). This means that the CCD imager(s) for that pixel...

Excellent for aspiring film makers!
I got this camera as a gift, and I love it to death. I can honestly say it's the most amazing camera I've ever had. You get what you pay for, and you get a lot from this camera.
I cannot however say that this is a camera that the general public should buy. It's very expensive, and really...

I love the camera!
I purchased this camera to provide DV for a documentary. It is working great. I love the quality of the picture, the ease of use, and the wonderful lens. I shoot a great deal of film in AV priority so I can control the depth of field. With the 20x lens, this works very well! So far, so good!

Canon XM2 (GL2) Camcorder
Great video camera ...until the tape system craps out ...only after use for a while you find out common problems with Canon's range of camcorders.
At the end of 2002 I had been looking to upgrade from my old Sony Hi 8 camcorder to one of those new funky mini DV camcorders, the ones with...

GL2 tape system needs to be recalled
My GL2 was eagerly awaited and received. I have been using a XL1 since April 2000 which has well over 350 hours of shooting time, not counting tape packing, playback and dubbing. It has survived harsh environments and handling and is still running strong.
The GL2 was a budgetary purchase and...

Canon GL2 MiniDV Digital Camcorder w/20x Optical Zoom
The Canon GL2 (like its predecessor, the GL1, and its big brother, the XL1) is helping to blur the line between consumer and professional video equipment. This camcorder borrows most of those cameras' professional- quality components and puts them into a more compact, affordable camera. Though it's small enough to carry around and doesn't cost much more than a top-of-the-line consumer camcorder, the GL2 produces such high-quality results that it could be used as a broadcast video camera.
