Ugh, Another Racing Game... Or Is It?
Racing games, for the most part, you play one, you've played them all. Ohhh... But wait, what's this? Hydro Thunder has water for race tracks and cool futuristic racing boats for you to pilot, instead of boring cars on typical asphalt courses. Hey hey, this game shows promise... but also lacks some... Read full review »
Highly addictive!
Hydro Thunder for the Dreamcast is the kind of game that reminds me of the early days of video gaming. Before you start thinking of rotten graphics and shallow gameplay and wondering what the heck I'm talking about, let me explain.
Back when the Atari 2600 was king, the best games for...

Get Ready to Burn some Water
Intro:
I've been meaning to buy Hydro Thunder (HT) since the Dreamcast launched in 1999. I've played it numerous times in the arcades, and found it to be a pretty fun game. But I wasn't going to plunk down $50 dollars for a game that would last me a week. HT was born and raised in the...

Wave Race Limited
"In the week of the release of Gamecube and Xbox , initial flagship releases sometimes mandate the success of a system."
It was over two years ago (9/9/99) when the Sega Dreamcast was initially offered to the public. The first offering of games introduced included the still popular ...

H2o GO! Hydro Thunder, worth a rental
sxejustin thought of the title for this review
Arcade racers have never really been my game of choice. As Austin Powers would say "they're not my bag, baby". They?re usually no depth games that I blaze through in a matter of days, if not hours. I was a little apprehensive about buying...

It's a real splash!
Hydro Thunder is awesome. I have never seen a cooler racing game ever, well except for F-Zero I haven?t.
The Dreamcast?s analog controller seems to fit perfectly with this game. The control is neither to tight or too loose, I think it is pretty much perfect. Whenever you go around a...

Fun, wet racer
To be honest, there is one reason, and one reason only, that I own this game. I got it in a 5 for a #1 sale bin not too long ago along with Dreamcast Re-Volt and WWF Attitude as well as SNES Multitap and scart leads.
I'm not a particular fan of racing games, nor speedboats. I rarely ever...

The best Highspeed Boat racer available
Can you imagine hitting a ramp at 300 mph? Well in Hydro Thunder you do this and much more!
In the past there has been many boat racing games which proved not be so great. Hydro Thunder is the complete exception. It's great graphics, map design and addictive gameplay will keep calling you back...

"Arcade Perfect" is no longer such a good thing
In the days of SNES and Sega Genesis, the gap between home consoles and arcade machines was vast enough to justify playing games like Mortal Kombat 2 in the arcade even if you owned the home version -- it was an entirely different experience. Even with the greater capabilities of the PSX and N64,... Read full review »
Hydro Thunder has left me feeling water logged.
Before I begin my review of the Midway "super boat" racing game Hydro Thunder, let me make it clear that I have really had fun with this game. I feel the need to state this because it may seem like I am seriously trashing this game by the time this review is over.
First let me give you the...

Hydro Thunder
As the first boat racing game on the Dreamcast, Hydro Thunder takes full advantage of the advanced processing power of this 128-bit machine. You'll steer one of 13 different boats through 14 fast and furious racing environments. As with the arcade version, you'll race against the clock and numerous other boats in a quest to reach the finish line first. The spectacular graphics and detailed race environments make this a most atypical racing game. In fact, there are times when you might find it difficult to concentrate on the racing because there is so much peripheral eye candy. We were most impressed by the New York Disaster, Far East, and Arctic Circle racing areas. Many of the best elements of Hydro Thunder are likely to be completely bypassed by casual gamers, since there are numerous hidden tracks, boats, and other elements to be uncovered in this game. However, persistent racers will be well-rewarded, since some of the best tracks can only be unlocked after winning several races. --Brett Atwood Pros: Detailed race environments Numerous hidden game elements Cons: Difficulty level will challenge beginning gamers

Hydro Thunder
You've never seen anything like it! Hydro Thunder is a high-speed, 3D super boat racer that uses Newtonian physics to emulate the feel of real thunder boat racing. Players actually feel the boats respond to waves, wild terrain and roadblocks with a realism unmatched in any other game. Hydro Thunder includes ten vividly rendered tracks and 9 unique boats. Each track contains short-cuts, ramps and turbo-boost icons that give players a burst of speed and invulnerability. The incredible graphics are not to be believed and a split-screen mode allows head-to-head competitive play. Afraid of the water? Get over it. Release is currently scheduled for 09/09/1999 (subject to change).
