As Plug 'n' Play As It Gets

byjwnrw Sep 27, 2005
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Ease of setup. Connection speed. Wireless standards a,b, & g.
Cons Susceptable to some interference.
Recommended it? Yes

Cisco's home network hardware line is as good as anything out of DLink, SMC or Netgear. I picked up this unit to replace a 4 year old SMC Barracade 7004 wired router that was on it's last legs, and since the Linksys is supported by my employer's helpdesk, the decision was a no brainer. To make... Read full review »

Pros The notebook adapter could win an industrial design award -- it looks great.
Cons The system does not actually work.
Recommended it? No

To set up a wireless network for two computers in different rooms of my apartment, I bought this WRT55AG wireless router and a WPC55AG wireless adapter. It was a mistake.

The computers are mainstream equipment: a Dell Dimension and a Sony Vaio. Both run Windows XP. I chose Linksys because... Read full review »

Good Wireless, POOR Internet LAN speed

bycread Jan 18, 2005
8 Helpfuls 9 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Good setup utility. Great looking!
Cons The worst LAN Internet speed I have ever seen.
Recommended it? No

I have a broadband connection and already have a wired LAN throughout my house. My LAN consists of a D-Link DI-704 residential gateway/router/firewall located at the main PC as well as a 24 port switch in my basement with most of my house wired to it and was looking to add wireless capability to my... Sometimes cannot ping to router despite good signal

byjosephh98 Jun 13, 2003
7 Helpfuls 8 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros User friendly.
Cons Unreliable
Recommended it? No

I find most linksys products reliable but this one had completely confused me. First I thought I was doing something wrong, but after trial and error, I finally found out it was the router, not the pc card nor the signal strength that was the problem. I thought specifically that it was the dhcp... Read full review »

Great Router - Just don't update the firmware.

bymongkut May 9, 2006
6 Helpfuls 7 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Easy to set up, good user interface, lots of features.
Cons Experienced a critical hang during update. Awful outsourced tech support.
Recommended it? Yes

The WRT55AG was my second wireless router purchase and my sixth Linksys router. I purchased this particular router based on my previous experience with Linksys which has all been exceptional (except for their horrible outsourced tech support). In looking for a wireless router I wanted something... Read full review »

Great product - Great Customer Service

bylmrat May 4, 2004
5 Helpfuls 6 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Easy to set up, fast, great support
Cons I'd like a smaller footprint
Recommended it? Yes

I'm typing this review from my new wireless laptop! I have no knowledge of networking and got the router up and running in 5 minutes using the quick start guide. I also bought the Wireless G Notebook adapter from lynksys and DID need help from customer service to get it configured. The man I spoke... Read full review »

My experience is obviously different than can be found in other reviews on this site. However, I'm looking through the lens of a computer tech who's been into computers since I'm 12. I'm 43 now, so I might be looking through rose-colored glasses. Now... On with the review!

I unplugged my... Read full review »

Very poor product & support - Stay away from Linksys

byraincity Nov 15, 2005
3 Helpfuls 4 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Easy to set up.
Cons Wireless connectivity completely unreliable. Very poor Linksys support.
Recommended it? No

I made the mistake of purchasing 2 of these routers and use them as access points for 802.11a connectivity. Setup was easy and they work fine UNTIL you start to use the faster speed you've paid for. For me this shows up mostly when I'm playing mpg videos. When I play videos via wireless both of... Read full review »

Don't bother!! (WRT55AG Ver 2)

byscottb630 Nov 4, 2005
3 Helpfuls 4 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Nice Black/Blue case, ie. like a fist after the frustration this will cause.
Cons Everything else, this is money wasted. Tech Support doesn't know of problems?!
Recommended it? No

I've owned it for around 1 year, it didn't work when I first bought it. I waited a year for firmware upgrades, it still doesn't work. It keeps dropping my connections (even if they are wired in). This is a piece of JUNK!!
As bad as my linksys BEFSR81 Ver 2 (which they no longer support... Read full review »
