A 3-megapixel camera tweaked to have 5-megapixels
Pros
Great video modes
Cons
Choppy pictures at 5mp setting, memory sticks are expensive, No Black and White setting
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
This is a tweaked 3-megapixel camera that does a horrible job. It's not worth the money. Get a Sony P72 instead.
I bought this camera as an upgrade to my Sony P72 3-megapixel camera because it had 5-megapixels and was cheaper than the Sony F-717, which was around $700.
The Sony P92 is like a Sony P32/52/72, but it has 5mp instead of 3. The extra 2mp do not help at all. The pictures are choppy and grainy. It gives the impression that it was built with the same materials as the 3mp cameras, but they tweaked it to put out 5mp. It doesn't even have Black and White picture effects!
I tried this camera when we were washing our cars. I took pictures of my new wax job. When I viewed the pictures at full size, there were too many red dots! The details were not captured at all!
I also used it to take pictures of the raindrops beading on my car, the rain drops looked like big red dots. I also tried taking pictures at the 3-megapixel setting. They were better than the 5-megapixel shots. Thing is, I wanted a good 5-megapixel camera, not a 3-megapixel camera! This was such a disappointment!
The only redeeming value of this camera is the fact that it has 3 different video modes. It can do Videos with audio (mpeg-vx)in 640x480 (full screen) until the memory of your memory stick is depleted. You are not limited to the30-seconds found in other cameras. It can also do GIF files and multi burst mode.
The flash charges up slower than that of the Sony P72. The "advantages" of this camera over the Sony P72 were the ff: 5mp, 4x digital zoom. That is all. It is not even good at taking 5mp pictures, and the digital zoom will make the pictures worse.
This camera was good only for it's video capabilities, not for it's pictures. If you want a good camera, this is not the one for you. Stick to the 3 megapixel group of Sony cameras, they are way better.
I do not recommend this camera
