Don't want to dump a grand on Nikon's 2.8zoom... Tamron has a great alternative
The Tamron 28-75 XR AF is one of my favorite lenses. It's hard to beat the quality, speed and price compared to any other lens. Maybe my 50mm 1.4 is better, but not by much.

Good Lens for this money
I owe this lens almost for a year.
Good lens as everyday use lens. For portraits - still good, but, for example Sigma 105mm F2.8 Macro is better.
Despite of the plastic body it fills solid. Not so solid as Canon L series lens, but for $360 you'll still have very good lens.

Nice lens at nice price
I was looking for a portrait zoom for my Canon 300D. Standard zooms from 24/28 up to 70/75mm make a nice portrait lens on 300D (with 1.6 crop factor).
