Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander: After Some Set Up Help, It's All Good
I recently bought a new iMac for myself and gave the old iMac to the kids. I got them a computer desk and moved the iMac into the room, except there was one major problem. There was no wireless signal in their room. Oddly enough, I could take my laptop into their room as long as it already had a... Read full review »
Lives Down to my Linksys Expectations
I live in a two story single family home. Nothing fancy. However, my computers have , well, sprawled. Luckily my Linksys WAP54G covers the primary areas of the home where I use my Sony VAIO laptop, Apple Mac G5 and where my wife uses her Apple Powerbook. That is until recently when we added a deck... Bad news abut the WRE54G
Tried for over three hours and many attempts and re-attempts but could not get this repeater set up. Before each re-attempt, I reset the unit and started over. Each effort failed and although the unit's lights indicated complete set up, it prevented all my computers from accessing my signal. My... Read full review »
Instructions for setting up the WRE54G
I had a problem figuring out what Mac address to use in the setup for unit. So I put in till I got the right one and the blue light stayed on when I saved the settings.
Next, when all finished and you have the unit programmed you have to go back to your orginal IP settings, obtain IP and all...

Not Compatible with Vista
I've had my Extender for about 2 years now for a notebook computer running windows XP. I took advantage of a notebook sale and later discovered Vista can only detect the Main router signal and not my extender. The linksys site shows what components are compatible with Vista, and this is not one of... Read full review »
VERY Happy Customer, Great Product!
I recently moved into a bigger house, and the office is located in the far right corner. This is where my router is and I had no signal on the other side of the house and only 1-2 bars upstairs. I kept disconnecting if I left my office so whats the point of having a wireless network? So I purchased... Read full review »

Don't expect 54mbps from the WRE54G
I bought a WRT54GSv4 router, which gave very good coverage to the far end of my house. But thinking I would like to boost the signal, I lashed out for a WRE54G range expander.
Afer a couple of hours of checking firmware versions, turning SSID back on, and some good support from Linksys, I...

WATCH OUT
Read the fine print. Not compatible with many Linksys models. I bought min at CompUSA and the store guy and I even thought we had checked compatibility. Turns out we were off by a single letter. Read full review »
not ready for release
this RE is barely at alpha.
Cisco ought to use some of its router technology in the LinkSys stuff now that they own them. If not, LinkSys may turn out to be a money pit.
This RE simply is not ready for release.
Too many things wrong w/ it and it only works w/ three of the...

Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander WRE54G
Expand the range of your wireless network The Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander is the easy way to increase the effective coverage of your wireless network. Unlike adding a traditional access point to your network to expand wireless coverage, the Wireless-G Range Expander does not need to be connected to the network by a data cable. Just put it within range of your main access point or wireless router, and it bounces the signals out to remote wireless devices. This relay station or repeater approach saves wiring costs and helps to build wireless infrastructure by driving signals into even those distant, reflective corners and hard-to-reach areas where wireless coverage is spotty and cabling is impractical. The Range Expander is perfect to help cover large areas in multi-story homes, warehouse environments, public spaces, wireless Hot Spots, and outdoor venues - anywhere you need extra coverage for your wireless network.
