Flax — the fiber from which linen is woven — can’t be rushed, or it becomes coarse or brittle. And then couldn’t be spun and woven into this soft, silky fabric. Since the 13th century, the finest linen has been made in Ireland, and this fabric is from Baird McNutt, Ireland’s foremost linen mill. Linen is one of our favorite fabrics, but it can be tricky. At times it’s so light it just wrinkes like mad. Other times, it can be stiff and starchy. Our 53% linen/47% cotton blend gives you the breathability and coolness of lightweight linen along with a supple substance that’s recognizably cotton. Linen’s been around since before the time of the pharoahs, and while we won’t claim that much longevity for this shirt, the fabric is woven both for comfort all summer and for many summers of wear.
