Pros Performance, image quality, easy to use, 2 AA batteries, features, price, uses SD cards
Cons Slow flash recycle time
Recommended it? Yes

The Canon PowerShot A720 IS features 8-Megapizel resolution, 6x optical zoom and optical image stabilization. Very similar to the last year's A710 IS (but with higher resolution), the A720 is a very good camera and here is why.

Although Canon makes virtually no mistakes and manages to... Read full review »

Light/pocketable high quality all purpose compact digital camera

Pros Light/pocketable high quality all purpose compact digital camera. Minor improvements over...
Cons ISO 1600 poor, Camera Windows software worsened, no wireless file transfer

- Premise

The A720is replaces the less than two years old A710is at the same if not lower price: around 250 euro in Europe, 250$ in the US. It seems that even if nowadays 1 euro corresponds to 1,43$ the prices of electronic components in the US and EU are pretty much the same regardless... Read full review »

Lots better by comparison

bykentmom Oct 23, 2007
13 Helpfuls 14 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Easy-to-learn menus and settings; quiet operation; capable of recording up to 60 minutes...
Cons Sorta' slow regen time between flash shots
Recommended it? Yes

The Canon A720IS stands heads and shoulders above the (three) Olympus cameras I've used - and I found its menus and settings more user-friendly than the two Nikon Coolpix models I've handled.

In the first few weeks of using this camera, I've found the menus - especially macro - very quick... Read full review »

Great backup or day trip digital camera

Pros Uses AA batteries, light, numerous modes, AV out, updated software
Cons ISO 400 and above noisy, SD card in battery compartment, processing time, flash recharge...
Recommended it? Yes

I purchased this camera 2 months ago to replace my trusty but aging PowerShot A620. It was available via a rewards program so I took the chance based mainly on it being a Canon product, 8 Mega Pixels, updated CCD and processor, and lighter then the old A620 I was giving to my father-in-law. Out of... Read full review »

too many options

Pros It has many Options and functionality. It has high mega pixels ratio and zoom.
Cons It is bulky. Image stabilization did not seem to work. Also it is not intuitive.
Recommended it? No

We just brought Cannon A720IS because we read good reviews on the Internet and also because it has high mega pixel ratio and zoom. It has many options but I could not figure out how to use the many settings and options. It is not very intuitive. My pictures ended up yellowish or blurry. I was... Read full review »

Its a Canon! Awesome!

bywjwood03 Oct 26, 2008

Pros Great image quality at lower ISOs; manual exposure controls; quick nonflash performance.
Cons Long flash recycle time; highest ISO settings very noisy.
Recommended it? Yes

Canon knows not to fix what isn't broken. Was impressed with its broad suite of features, solid design, and good value. The 8-megapixel PowerShot A720 IS does little to change that formula, sticking very close to the path traveled by the A710 IS.
The A720 IS stands nearly identical to its... Read full review »

Pros Light, great quality, awesome features, outstanding price
Cons battery life, slow flash recharging time

Ever have those times where you wish you had your camera on hand fast? When as soon as you power your camera on the action is over?? Well with the Canon Power Shot, it takes only about two seconds to power up and only four seconds to zoom. It also has a built in light adjusted for those pictures... Read full review »

High Quality Photos With Many Options For The Photographer

Pros Whether on the auto or manual settings, produces quality photos.
Cons Flash recycle speed slightly slow, flash output in dimly lit rooms is weak.

I am an amateur plus photographer, in that I have earned a photography certificate and love taking pictures. I am not a novice, yet I wouldn't call myself an expert in photo taking - especially digital photo shooting. Having said that, I had come to loathe using the small, point & shoot digitals... Pros Fabulous resolution Many different photo settings
Cons Battery usage Heavier/bulkier due to the AA batteries

I received this camera as a Christmas present to replace a Sony Sure Shot that had a Sony lithium battery that had challenges. Unfortunately, my husband didn't do a lot of research and bought this one that uses AA batteries ... and a lot of them. We ended up having to purchase rechargeable... Read full review »

Best deal on a replacement for my A70

bybnl683 Jan 23, 2008

Pros A little smaller (2 AA's), Bigger screen, more resolution
Cons Long write to card time
Recommended it? Yes

Please note that this is basically a comparison between the A70 and A720 IS. I purchased the A70 in the summer of 2003. It has served me well until the sensor malfunction (for which there is a "recall"). I purchased the A720 on 12-20-2008 and received it on the next day with a Canon Pixma iP3500... Read full review »
