Flawless first-person gameplay to die for. Special operative Joanna Dark flips the script on the predictable plots of first-person shooters, with a twisting storyline where aliens are allies and trust is a luxury which you can't afford. Players control Ms. Dark, who earned the nickname Perfect after graduating with top honors from the Carrington Institute. The action begins in the year 2023, when Joanna receives a distress signal from a troubled scientist held hostage in the heart of a monolithic corporation called dataDyne. Joanna's first mission is to infiltrate the heavily guarded corporate headquarters, and soon she finds herself in the epicenter of an intergalactic conspiracy set to explode. We don't want to spoil the surprises that pop up along the way, but it's safe to say that throughout her adventure Joann discovers the corrosive effect power and greed have on the human psyche. As an extra bonus, she's also a crucial player in a massive war between two alien species. Less

Left for worm food under a huge boulder at the conclusion of Banjo-Kazooie, Gruntilda the witch is back and boy, is she mad. Forming a coven of co-conspirators with hideous sisters Mingella and Blobbelda, Grunty has hatched a madcap plan to regain her former beauty by using the Big O'Blaster (B.O.B.) to suck the life force from B-K's island. Naturally, Banjo, the ever-cheerful bear, and Kazooie, the wise-mouthed breegull who camps out in Banjo's blue backpack, will do everything in their power to stop Grunty's nefarious plot. Developer Rare (Donkey Kong 64) has greatly extended replayability by adding 14, count 'em, 14 multiplayer games. In keeping with Banjo-Tooie's tongue-in-cheek character, the multiplayer games include daft versions of soccer and bumper cars as well as first-person shooters in which you lock-and-load an egg-shooting Kazooie. Solo players can refight bosses and replay Banjo-Tooie's myriad minigames as often as they want. Less

The Bond, Quake, Half-Life Killer!

Pros Replay Value, Graphics, Everything
Cons A little hard for The Wood man.
Recommended it? Yes

Something cool came out a few months after the Nintendo 64's release. A little old game called, Golden Eye came out. It was based on a movie, which is always a bad sign for video games, and not a very good movie at that. I think it came to everyone's surprise when the game turned out to be one of... Pros Everything from Jo's outfits, weapons, gadgets, enemies, sound effects, cutscenes....
Cons The only 'con' is that there's only 24 hours in the day in which to play...

If you're an N64 owner, I have just three words for you: "Get Perfect Dark."
This game blows away any and all competition from any other game ever designed for the N64, including the much revered Goldeneye (made by the same team that created PD). The depth in the singleplayer missions alone is... Read full review »

Banjo-Tooie vs. Banjo-Kazooie

byImAmes Jun 4, 2001
99 Helpfuls 100 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great Graphics, but nothing different than the first.
Cons Banjo-Kazooie was better!
Recommended it? Yes

Banjo-Tooie, which came out this past Christmas, was one I have been looking forward to ever since I finished the first one last year. Now Banjo-Kazooie was no easy feat, and took several months, and me almost going bald, to almost complete it. I got about as far as Gruntilda the witch and the duel... Read full review »

Just so you know what's keeping flamepillar so busy...

byflamepillar Jun 12, 2001

Pros All the same moves; it's basically no different from playing the classic prequel.
Cons Detailed worlds cause slow-motion at times.
Recommended it? Yes

Greetings to all you vile insects out there. It is me, Gruntilda. Flamepillar is not at his computer at the moment. He stupidly left the thing running while he took a break to go try and find me. Allow me to explain.

I am his worst nightmare. I am the lead villain of the video game... Read full review »
