I bought this player to replace a Panasonic changer that is similar (even similar looking!) that doesn't play CD-R's or MP3's. I bought this Onkyo refurbished for 99.99 at an online outlet, as I've heard good things about Onkyo and still believe their receivers are on par with Yamaha or Denon. But... Read full review »

Cons Eats disks, separates sound from picture on DVD's.

How does the DVD player know which disks are the hardest to replace? This system has eaten two disks so far, and I still have been unable to replace one:(

Pros Inexpensive, seemingly good quality

Our old DVD players has been on its way out for some time. It would play the first DVD of the day but would then refuse to load another disc for the rest of the day. I finally broke down and bought the Sony DVP-SR500H.

Pros Metal casing. Quality look. 1 year warranty.
Cons Unreliable exactly like other cheap DVDs. Limited to 480p via component connectors.
Recommended it? No

I chose the Sony DVP-SR500H ($60) over the Memorex MVD2047 because I believed that Sony brand will provide me with at least 1 year of service vs. the few months that is the "typical standard" nowadays with cheap DVD players. The Sony costs 50% more but it's really only $20 more.
